Oxido Solutions at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Zandvoort

This weekend, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Zandvoort is taking place. Representing my company Oxido Solutions – a crypto quant trading firm for professional and institutional investors – I had the privilege of attending the qualifying session as a guest of OKX, partner of the McLaren F1 Team.

The day began with breakfast and an update on OKX’s latest developments at Capital C, a creative hub in the heart of Amsterdam. From there, we traveled in style with other institutional traders, brokers, technology providers, and partners to Zandvoort.

From the OKX McLaren Lounge, we had front-row seats to the action — watching McLaren’s drivers Piastri and Norris secure top positions for Sunday’s race — while enjoying excellent food, drinks, and conversations. It was a great opportunity to connect with clients and peers on the latest trends in crypto quant trading.

Just like in Formula 1, success in our industry depends on technology, fine-tuning, and overall performance. Only the most advanced and well-balanced systems stay ahead. Those who fail to innovate risk being overtaken.

At Oxido, we apply this same mindset through our market making strategies, designed to give institutional investors the potential to gain a competitive edge on platforms like OKX. By teaming up with our partners and clients, we aim to stay ahead in the race for performance.

Today’s key takeaways and insights:

  • OKX is innovating through its partnership with Standard Chartered, offering institutional clients the option of off-exchange settlement via a tier-1 bank at highly competitive fees. For many institutions, this may present a compelling alternative to traditional custody solutions. We at Oxido Solutions will also be integrating this into our infrastructure.
  • Oxido Solutions and Investors in our market making strategy can benefit from OKX’s VIP 8 fee tier – the most competitive fee structure among the top three exchanges. For fee-sensitive strategies like market making, this can have a meaningful impact on results. For us, this is an essential reason to use OKX as our primary crypto trading platform.
  • Market structure has shifted: lower BTC volatility over the past three years – driven by institutional accumulation and political developments –  has made trend-following BTC strategies more challenging. In contrast, low-beta market neutral, scalping, and market making approaches, particularly on ETH and altcoins, appear to offer stronger opportunities.
  • AI is a hot topic, but many institutional traders – including us at Oxido – remain cautious about short-term adoption in crypto quant trading. The complexity, number of parameters, and risk of over-optimization are significant. Investors should carefully assess risks before leaning into AI-driven approaches.

A big thank you to the OKX team for the warm hospitality and excellent organization.
